Thomas, Nikita and Cyril : their experience on the summer solidarity workcamps !

Thomas, Nikita, 21 years old and Cyril, years old,  took part to Emmaüs 82 ‘s summer solidarity workcamp, in the Tarn et Garonne, near Montauban. We asked them a few questions.

Why did you choose to take part to a summer solidarity workcamp?

Thomas : With my 4 friends, we were searching for a  national solidarity internship. The summer solidarity workcamp were the occasion to be together.

What did you like the most on your workcamp ?

Nikita : What I liked most was, indeed living in the community. Everyone was so benevolent. I never stopped meeting new people and discovering stories of people of diverse horizons. It was also the opportunity for me to build new friendships.

Why take part to a summer solidarity workcamp ? – What would you say to someone who is hesitant to participate ?

Cyril :Why should oneself get involved? It is a social and ecological gesture. Ecological because Emmaus gives a second life to objects, and social because the money collected helps the most disadvantaged people to live. In addition, if someone is hesitating, I would tell them that it’s an incredible and unforgettable experience. Personally, it changed my vision of the world, and after this experience, I have the ambition to get involved even more in humanitarian and solidarity work because I had a real awareness. At the end of the internship, there was a real sense of accomplishment because you felt like you were helping, but also sadness… You get attached to the community very quickly.
